INCREASE IN AUSTRALIAN BETTING FEES. The Svinov proprietary horse" clubs have decided to increase ihe fees charged bookmakers lor betting privileges, and no doubt the latter will lind means oi passing the burden along to the public. S412...0: Warwick Farm, paddock. 50. Leger. ..",. The clubs named have come to an arrangement by which any bookmaker taking out a licence for all four courses will receive a 20 per cent, reduction. . Possibly the A. J. C. will now go in for an increase at Randwick, where, considering the possibilities, the betting fees are the most reasonable in the Svdnev area. One result of the increased charges should be greater liberality in the matter of prize monev. tniler the new scheme it will cost those bookmakers following their calling in the paddock at the -pony" as welt as "horse" meetings ,315 each in fees alone. The Tact that a great number do so gives a fair idea of what a good business bookmakiug in Sydney really must be. Furthermore, in view of these charges, it makes one smile to bear the average bookmaker proclaiming he would be well satisfied to retain 2 per cent, of his turnover. Sydney Referee.
