C, February 10. Racing at Palmetto Park this afternoon was conducted under improved conditions. The track was iu good condition, while the weather was or just the sort to make out side sport enjoyable. Scratches were numerous, but well-balanced lields went to the post and a majority of the finishes furnished stirring contests. This was especially true or the two handicaps, both of which found the winners lirst home by the shortcut of margins. Ruzz Around and Wilhite were the winning favorites. The latter beat Deposit in the final stride of the fourth race and his victory was a lucky one. Sherwood, which finished third", suffered from repeated interference and but for thorough trip would have won. The mile and twenty yards handicap went to Carlton G.. which led rrom start to finish, but just lasted long enough to beat Frank Hudson. Jockey Knight rode a strong finish on the winner, which cut much figure iu the outcome. J. W. Iledriek, owner of Frank Hudson, bid Carlton G. up from ,MK to ,200 and secured him. Helen M.. winner of the second race, was also hid up, L. II. Adair being responsible for the bidding. She was advanced from 1914.sh00 to and retained. Moscowa, the cdds-oii favorite in the two-year-old race, proved a rank disappointment. The finish found three outsiders fighting it out with the winner turning up in W. Woodards Alledo, which showed a smart iierforinance. I Jockeys Neander and Wolfe, who accompanied jockeys Sumter and Ryrne to Aiken. S. C, Saturday night, returned this morning. William II. Karrick tried out the Hitchcock and Kmipp yearlings over the Whitney track yesterday. Sumter will remain at Aikeu for the rest of the winter. Jockey W. Hopkins, who left this country last fall for England, lias signed to ride mv the stable that Preston P.urch is training in France. Abe Levy, a former well-known New York layer, was among the visitors at Palmetto Park today. He is sojourning at Suminerville. Word was received from Amos Turney of the death of the promising racer Flabbergast, which died as a result of pneumonia contracted while en route from Kentucky to Denning. Jockey Teahan was taken sick after riding Mona G. in tin; opening dash and was forced to cancel his remaining engagements. There was a decided improvement in the going at Palmetto Park this afternoon. The "dogs" were up, however, which accounts for the apparently slow time.
