NOTES OF THE TURF FROM ABROAD. Clarence liailey has purchased Lavaine to go lo India, and the horse has arrived at C. Waughs stable preparatory to leaving. C. Lyuliani, the trainer, has leased the late Richard Carters , training establishment at Chantilly and will enter into possession shortly. The French Government Stud Commission lias purchased M. Vagiianos Lino. The son of Son o Mine will be stationed at Satnt-Lo. Lady James Douglas Rosedrop, -winner of the Oaks in 1010, foaled a bay lilly foal by Bayardo on February 3 and will Ik; bred to him again. D. Maher who has been among the list of distinguished invalids of late, is still confined to his room. He hopes to be out and about again iu a week or so. Dancing Mistress and Spicy Bit, having been sold, have left P. Hartigans stable at Ogbourue to proceed to India. Scotch Wolf has also left the Ogbourue stable to race in Ireland. One of the oldest jockeys in England is Harvey Covey, who was 73 years of age February 2. He is lit and well and rides out "spares" for T. Young, the Findon trainer. He has ridden many winners iu his time, and steered Cornbury to victory iu the treat Metropolitan Stakes in 1S05. The value of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club Australian Steeplechase lias been raised from ,500 to ,750, of the Caullield Cup from 0,000 10 5,000, of the Caullield Guineas 1015 from 2,000 sovereigns to 2,000 guineas, and of the Futurity Stakes 10K! from 2,500 to 5,000. The following eleven English horses have been engaged for the Grand Steeplechase, to be decided at Auteuil during the coming summer: Mr. Bower-Ismays Bnlscadden, Sir C. Assheton-Sniiths Irish Mail, Maid Marian and Bernstein, Sir George Bul-loughs Ilston and Ballymacad. Mr. T. Nolans Rath-lea, Mr. Frank Bibbys Forkhill. Sir Icter Walkers Lord Niuian, and Mr. Harry La Montagues Hugo-mart. Onadi Haifa, a line upstanding bay sou of Persimmon, is responsible for the iirst foal that has made its appearance at Cobliam Stud this year. This is a line hay filly out of Fair Emigrant, a Colonial-bred mare, inasmuch as she is by Grand Flaneur out of Gloria, by Trenton. Fair Emigrant, probably the last Toal by Grand Flaneur, was imported into England "in utero," and was foaled there some lime in October.
