TRAGIC DEATH OF OTTERY ST. MARY. When W. OB. Macdonough sold his yearlings iu Knglaud in 1911. the highest price he secured was ,750. which Ernest Dresden gave for a grand appearing bay colt by Ossary Santa Bella. Ho was heavily engaged in stake races, but unluckily fell sick aiid could nut be raced as a two-year-old. lie was naiueil Ottery St. Mary and was raced a few times last year without success and was put to jumping this winter. At Manchester, February 17, he fell at the fourth hurdle in the Four ear Old Selling Handicap Hurdle Race, but went riderless and finished second, then making for tho pad dock, he got under the rails and crashed through them, staking himself so badly that his heart and lungs were penetrated, and ho died within live minutes from the time he took his toss. lhus perished a horse that his breeder fondly hoped would prove equal to carrying off the highest honors of English racing.
