CHARLESTON TRACK DRYING H.IGII WIND HELrS TO IMPROVE PALMETTO PARK COURSE. Training Opeiations Suspended Yesterday Because of Unfavorable Conditions H. G. Bcdwcll Con-tinucs to Head List of Winning Owners, Charleston, .S. C. March S. Training operations were practically suspended al Palmetto Park this morning as a result of the heavy going and also because, as was the case last Sunday, a higb wind sprang up. Only a fow horses were out and their moves were on the slow side. The wind did much to dry out the course and it should be in fair condition for the beginning of the weeks racing tomorrow. Only three weeks remain of the present season and the same order of interesting sport that prevailed last week will be carried our. The program book for this week calls for contests which should briiis: out stood horses and the two-year-olds again will be in the limelight. More new two-year-olds are being started with the running of each juvenile race and there are many good ones waiting ior favorable track conditions before going to the post. V glance at the nominations sent from here for the Kentucky Stakes which closed last week shows that the calibre of horses destined to race in the Blue Crass statu the coming spring will be of the best. The Churchill Down-; stakes closed last Monday, while those for Douglas Iark and Latonia closed yesterday. Airmnj; the cracks nominated for the Kentucky and Latoiiia Derbjs is Surprising. K. I. Carmans star Marta Santa colt, and his owner has high hopes that he will duplicate the feat of Meridian in winning for him the Kentucky Derby. The. .1. O. Talbott stable took a bis jump in the list of winning owners during the past week, but II. G. licdwcll still has a commanding lead and there is little doubt but that he will head the list for the entire meeting. Mr. Redwclls success was limited In the past six racing days, although he was liberally represented ou the daily programs. .loekey McTnggart also continued to make a ftood howjng and it is impossible for any of the other riders to got within striking distance of him be- now and the end of the season. He did rtwecn hu best riding of the meeting one day last week when he won three races, losidcs finishing second twice and third once. Selling race, tumbles were renewed on Saturday when H. IL Gprlif, who lost his hore Coreojsis early in Hie meeting by. the claiming process, arrived from his homo in Louisville and ran up Queed and secured him. H. G. Bcdwcll, as has been his custom since the .1. 0. Talbott stable took Helen M. from hlui, bid her tin when she won on the same day and, as usual, failed to secure her.
