THE FOREMOST OF CANADIAN RACING EVENTS -rxr- ; ; The season is at hand when the attention of the hosts of racing enthusiasts in Eastern Canada is turn ing to the Kings Ilate, oldest of Americas continuously run laces and the premier event of the Canadian t!irf. This famous fixture, instituted in 1S0O as the Queens Ilate and run annually ever since without a break in its continuity, will be decided for the tifty-lifth time on the opening day of the Ontario Jockey lulls spring meeting at the Woodbine track, Toronto, May 23. The Ontario Jockey Club lias increased the value of the race from time to time until now it figures as one of the richest fixtures of Canadian racing. In its early running the prize was only the titty guineas donated by the reigning sovereign of Kug- I. ind, but tlte winning of it was just as keenly sought as in these later days, when its intrinsic value has been made commensurate with its importance and traditions, historically and socially. The entries for this yi-ars renewal of the race have just been announced and with the owners, breeding, weight to be carried and other particulars, are as follows: THE KINGS ILATE 50 guineas, the gift of his majesty King George V. The oldest fixture run continuously on this continent. Estimated value 1914.sh,000. 50 guineas, the gift of his majesty King George ". .. with ,000 added by the Club. The first horse to receive the guineas, stakes and ,500; the second horse 00, and the third horse 00. The breeder of the winner to receive 00.
