ENTRIES FOR KENTUCKY DERBY PRESAGE THE GREATEST CONTEST IN ITS HISTORY ,I As seemed likely would be the case, the Kentucky Derby of 1914 has attracted the most brilliant list of entries in tlie long and notable history of this famous fixture. Secretary Lyman II. Davis, of the New Louisville Jockey Club, under whose auspices tlie race will be run on the opening day of the coming spring meeting at Churchill Downs, yesterday made public the list of tlie forty-six nominations received for it. Thev foreshadow tlie greatest Derby ever run over the famous old Louisville course. With tlie exception of the Futuritv winner, Pennant, and one or two others, all of tlie two-year-olds that achieved distinction in American racing of 1013 are numbered among the list of its eligibles. No race for three-year-olds in t ids country since the days of the far-famed American Derby at Washington Park lias attracted such an all-star entry nor held out such promise of a brilliant contest between the topnotchers of this age. The New Louisville Jockey Club certainly deserves to be congratulated upon tlie results that have so speedilv followed its far-sighted action in materially increasing tlie value of this important race. It is estimated that witli the 0, KM to be added to the Derby this season by the New Louisville Jockey Club its gross value will approximate 5,000. This will be in keeping with the importance of the Kentucky Derbv from the historical and sentimental standpoints. The complete list of tlie forty-six entries, with their pedigrees, tin- names of their owners and a summary of their racing records to date, follows: Horse. Col.Sex. Pedigree. Owner. 1st. 2d. :!d. Last year there were thirty-two nominations for tlte Kentucky Derby. The increase of entries this year to forty-six is a condition that is by no means confined lo this particular stake. For tlie Kentucky Oaks forty-six nominations have been received, as compared witli thirty-six last year; for the Clark Stakes, sixty-live, as against lifty-four in RK!: lor the Frank Fehr Slakes, seventy-nine, an increase of one over l!ii;; for the Juvenile Stakes, ninety-six, a decrease of three, and for the Rashford Manor Slakes and the Debutante Stakes, which were run as overnight races last year, tin. entries number ninety-four and nhiety-S"ven tcspcctivelv. All of which goes to strengthen the general beiief that Kentucky is this year destined to enjov the greatest racing in the historv of the sKU t in that, old commonwealth.
