H- SPLENDID ENTRY LISTS FOR THE VALUABLE KENTUCKY HANDICAP AND LATONIA DERBY j j Further indication that Kentucky is this season to be the scene of the finest racing iu the history of fie sport in that locality is furnished by the lists of nominations for two of the richest and most important of Kentucky races the Kentucky Handicap. 0,000 added, for three-year-olds and over, one mile and a quarter, to be run on the inaugural day of the Douglas Park meeting at Louisville, May 23. and the Latouia Derby, 1914.sh,000 added, for three-year-olds, one mile and a half, to be run at Latouia, .Tune S. John llachuieister, who is manager of both these tracks, yesterday made announcement of the entries received for the two stakes mentioned and others to be decided during the spring meetings at Douglas Park and Latouia. These stakes had their closing March 7 and ail tilled in a manner that assures highly successful meetings at both tracks, if racing of the highest class will bring about that result. Practically all of the high-class horses in tltis country are included in the list of eligibles for this race, which is to lie one of the most valuable decided in America this .vear. Besides the cream of the three-year-olds that will take part in the two Derbys to be run in Ken-"iiiekv, the entries for this rich event embrace such stars of the lirst magnitude as August Belmonts Bock View, C. The most notabe of the absentees from the Latouia list, as compared witli the Churchill Downs fixture, include Little Nephew, Surprising, Cliarlestonian, Aandergrift and Christophine. To comiensate for the absence of these and a few others the Latouia Derby has a number of promising prospects that were not named for the Ken-tuckv Derby, the most notable of which is Beech Comber, a son of Bock Sand and Fairy Slipier. for which K. K. Hradley paid the sensational price of 4,000 as a yearling. Beach Comber has never raced yet. having met with an accident in training last season.
