Horsemen Ague, lo Race for Gate Receipts and Officials Donate Their Services — Betting Conducted on Strictly Oral Basia. Norfolk, Va.. April 8.— The meeting- ot Ihe Jamestown Jockey Club continued today under an agreement reached last night after yesterdays raid on the betting ring had been discussed in all its phases. Tin- arrangement is that the Jockey Club will not be required to adhere to the program orig inally announced for the meeting aud the horsemen "ill race for the gate receipts. The officials will do their part in carrying the meeting out by donating their services, it Is expected that under these conditions the sport will go on without interruption until the tifteen days for which it was scheduled shall have been .completed on April 17. The following day will bring the opening of the racing; sea-sou in Maryland, at the Havre de Grace track. A large and enthusiastic crowd was on baud at tlie track this afternoon. The excitement that attended the raiding of the betting ring yesterday has not died away and local citizens are highly incensed over the high handed manner in which the emissaries of Governor Stuart made their arrests yesterday. The races oday were contested without any programmed purses, but it was understood that winning horses would receive over 00 apiece. No open belting was tolerated today and representatives of tho governor failed to put in an appearance. Several layers accepted oral wagers on the lawn. Favorites scored frequently and the layers had ■ losing day. Because of numerous scratches, the fields that laced the starter were small, lull nevertheless the racing was keenly contented throughout.
