THE WEEKS EVENTS AT CHURCHILL DOWNS. Louisville. Ky.. May !». Now that the Derby is over, horsemen are looking forward to Ihe historic Clark Handicap, which Is lo be the feature of next Saturdays program at the Downs. This event, named in honor of Col. M. Lewis Clark, the first president of the Louisville Jockey Club, has a history as long as thai of the Kentucky Derby. From IS7. until 1801, inclusive, il was run as the Clark Stakes and. like the Derby, was for three-year-olds only. In 1!KI2. however, it was made an all-aged race and has since been run under the revised conditions, with the distance reduced from a mile and a quarter to a mile and a sixteenth. J. Winn, backed by President Charles | Grainger and his other associates iu the conduct of racing at this beautiful track.
