Belmont Park Meeting Comes to Close with One of the Biggest Crowds of the Season in Attendance — Comely Wins Laureate Stakes. New York. June 20. — The Belmont and the Laureate Stakes wire the features of the closing day of the Belmont Dark meeting. The racing was witnessed by one of the largest erow.ls of the sea son. Aside from the stake events, the program was of good quality and productive of spirited racing. Luke Mcl.uke accounted for the DelinonL Stakes in easy style. It incidentally marked the Brst success of tin- Schorr stable on the metropolitan circuit this year. Luke McLuke, after racing Chariest, iiiau into submission, shook off Gainer while turning for home and drew away in the tinal fur-ii.ng l . win by eight lengths. Gainer, restrained in ih. early running, came with a rush wlen set down, but after assuming a .•.intending position dropped back although he held Charlestoafatn sat.-for s. c .n.l place. Thornhill was withdrawn, leal ing the three to contest the stake. The Belmont Stakes dates back to 1S07, when it was Won by Ruthless. The suspension of jockey McTairgart has been coin iniieil until July 31 and he has bees warned that a repetition of his rough riding will cause, his license to be revoked.
