CONSISTENCY IS REQUIRED IN AUSTRALIA. One of the new and drastic rules of racing in Australia was applied with effect at the recent meeting of the Bendigo Jockey Club. A horse called Buckram finished sixth In a hurdle race on the first day. and won under similar conditions on the second day. On his first outing he went back to 8 to 1 in the betting, while his success was foreshadowed oh his next appearance by his starting favorite at .5 to 2. The stewards disqualified Buck- Vram for this race, on the ground of inconsistent running, and declared Lady Lenar. which finished second, the winner. The owner appealed to the VIetorlan Racing Club, but the ruling or the steward was upheld.
