RACING AGAIN FORMFUL AT LATONIA. Hodgo Wins His First Purso of the Year in Kentucky Star Charter Dead. Cincinnati, O., Octolwr 22. Highly interesting sport was provided at Latonia this afternoon and was enjoyed by one of the best crowds of the meeting. The weather was again ideal and the betting brisk and voluminous. There were no great surprises and the winners were all staunchly supported. The tield for the mile dash that was Intended as the feature, was so reduced by scratches that only live of the eleven originally carded were starters. Benanets withdrawal was due to her coming out of yesterdays race badly cut about the legs. Grover Hughes was withdrawn because he was ineligible to start at the time of entry and Little Father was likewise made ineligible to start as a result of his victory of yesterday. Hodge loomed up as the most promising betting prospect of the afternoon and he made good, but only after a hard stretch effort to dispose of Star Actress. Incidentally it marked the first winning performance of the horse this year on a Kentucky track. He ruled a strong favorite and showed a good performance by staying close to Star Actress in the early running and outgaming her in the iinal drive. Old Ben led the others and with more vigorous handling would have been much closer up. Before the race, the stewards substituted Van Dusen for Murphy 011 Hodge, as the Kentucky racing rules do not allow a jockey to ride against a contract employer: W. G. Yankc, who has a call on Murphy, was represented in tlie race by Old Ben. Grecian, coupled with Sandstone as the Madden and Kcene entry, stubliornly contested every incli of the third race with William Gersts Converse, and Won by a nose. Dortch and Hank ODay, both smartly backed, showed poor form and finished in the ruck. William Gersts Colle made amends in the fifth for Converses failure by getting home in front of Lady London and Jessie Louise. Coy and Sun Queen were regarded highly for this race, but the latter was cut off sharply at the start and Coy sulked most of the way. hist after the finish. Neylon, her rider, showed temper in striking the mare across the heart and he was promptly fiued 5 by the stewards. Desha ISreckenbrhlges Chitra and George J. Longs Inez hotly contested the opener and finished in the order named, with Martha, Lee .third. Zin Del was given smart support by the Canadians, but she ran out on the turns and was eased up in the stretch when beaten. Bayberry Candle was the -choice foe the second, but was beaten off, and after the finish, K. T. Col-ton, acting for M.. A, Colton, represented in the race by Trlfler, claimed the Bradlev ttlly for SS05. The closing dash went to George Stoll, running in J. S. Hawkins interest; Hp was entered for 00 and on his hid of 00, W, H. Penrce became his owner. He seems to he a .bargain. at the price. Chitra and Charmnuse, comprising the two-horse combination, yielded 4.20 for . Hodge, Colle and George Stoll, In the three-horse, paid 1.S0. General Manager John Hachmeister sent out letters tonight to the New Louisville Jockey Club management and to the Kentucky ..ssociation suggesting that representatives of these associations meet at Latonia in November witli representatives of the Latonia and Douglas Park Associations to discuss dates for next season.
