TH.E IMPROVEMENTS AT JUAREZ. t The J-n Paso Times devotes considerable space to a description of the improvements made at th? Jockey Club Juarez track, in the course of which it says: There are nianv beautiful places hereabouts to visit at the present time and El Paso has many attractions for the average lover of the scenic Iieautiful, but without doubt the prettiest and jiirwt pleasing picture that the eye can view in this section" is the huge and magnificent plant of the Jockey Club Juarez, where after a summer and fall of steady work, the 55;000 worth of improvements have altout" been completed and the course today stands as the most complete and up-to-date upon the North American continent. "Superintendent Frank Kcegan, who has labored untiringly carrying out the plans of Mr. Winn this summer played host to. a party of newspaper men last Saturday and took them over the vast plant. All had been over the plant in the past and were thoroughly familiar with its completeness and yet every one expressed the utmost surprise and; pleasure at the improvements that had been In-; stalled. "Standing upon the lawn in front of the stand. ; one of the prettiest pictures the eye can view in this section unfolds itself. Looking in every direc-l Hon, enclosing the track within the square that is 1 formed, stand the stables, pronounced by horsemen i the best from every standpoint iqion any course in America. Mr. Kcegan had a big force of over forty men busy whitewashing the stables and barns while the doors to the same are being painted green. The resulting effect can easily be Imagined. "The infield within another week will be a veritable carpet of green. Winter oats lias been planted within the vast enclosure and the sprouts are just showing their heads through the ground. The inner rail has been lowered to do away with the chauce of jockeys crushing their feet and is being painted; in fact, Mr; Keegan is extremely liberal with his paint and there is not a portion of the vast plant that has not leen touched up and brightened under his able direction. "In front of the stand, the lawn has been terraced so that the .patrons of the club can sit and watch the races, getting a clear view over the heads of those in front. All the benches iu the huge stand have been given a thorough coat of paint, while the ceiling iu the betting ring has been whitewashed. "Stretching from the north end of the plant along the north line and all the way down connecting with the grandstand and paddock have been erected a huge adobe wall which has been painted white. This serves to enclose the entire plant and at the same time furnishes a background so that the horses in motion are brought out clear to the view of the onlooker. "Along the west wall have been built a large number of additional stables witli big. rommy and sani-tarv kitchens and sleeping quarters for the trainers and the stable help. Like, all the other stables and kitchens on the course, these have been constructed of adobe and whitewashed, with the doors and sashes painted green. "Upon the lawn in front of the stand between the squares formed by the concrete terrace work and walks, Mr. Keegan is placing screenings dipped in green creasote. This will carry out the color scheme of white and green, the green screenings with the white concrete walks. "The carpenter shop is a complete plant in itself, capable of turning out any kind of work, while in the racks along the sides and the center are to lie found lumber of all sizes and shapes, the place carrying a .stock capable of taking care of any emergency. There is a vat for burning the whitewash and another for mixing it; while tin; blacksmith shop is a vast plant with every modern convenience. "It has always been the policy of the management of the course to have nothing but the very .best and that :5,000 which has been added to the. cost of establishing the greatest winter race plant; at the doors of El Paso brought only the best to be. had and today the fplant stands, far beyond. Invery particular anV winter race course uiKn tlie: "North, American continent, while as a racing plant it stands comparison with any race course of any description in the world. "Superintendent Keegan will turn his attention this week to the road from Juarez to the course and promises to have it in the best of shape. This will make an ideal road for the antolsts and a visit to the big plant after this week and before the opening of the coming meeting, will be a pleasure."
