SHIPMENT OF HORSES TO NEW ORLEANS. New Orleans. November 25. Running on passenger train schedule, six carloads of race hor.-vs will arrive here Saturday from Latonia. Ky., aud be taken to the Fair Grounds track, where they will add considerably to the colony of thoroughbreds awaiting the opening of the Business Meas Racing Asscciation forty-day meeting Jan. 1. Jake Marklein will be in charge of the shipment and will bring a string on his own account. Frank J. Grefer, the Jefferson parish turfman, will have his string in the shipment, and the Grefer stable will include the good handicap filly Floral Park, and the two-year-old colt. Jefferson. The latter, according to Grefer. was named in honor of Jefferson parish, and not after that great statesman, Thomas Jefferson. Mars Cassidy, perhaps the best-known race starter in the country, was iu New Orleans, scene-of some of his most successful labors, a day or tw ago on his wav to Juarez, and expressed his sincere belief that the winter meeting which opens Jan. 1 at the Fair Grounds track will be a big success. "Horsemen with whom Ive discussed ih Crescent Citys re-entry into thoroughbred racing tell me that they cant see a chance for the venture to fail for want of support both by horsemen and lovers of racing." declared Mr. Cassidy. Mr. Cassidy was accompanied by his wife. Renewing acquaintances here occupied a good part of his time. He is in his usual robust health and bis friends told hiui he didnt look a day older than when lie was here seven years ago serving usi starter at Citv lark and the Fair Grounds.
