WILL TEST A NEW BETTING POINT The first racing of the year in the vicinity oC New York look place at Hewlett Bay Park L L Saturday under the auspices of the Rockaway Hunt ¬ ing Club Six races were run in the presence oC about 3000 society folks An incident was one that will call for further action in the New York courts concerning which the Sun said There was con ¬ siderable speculation on the result of the races ami this was conducted mostly on the system in vogue last year which has been declared legal by tins courts Toward the end of the meeting there was a departure from the practice of the bettor making his own memorandum without depositing cash and tills resulted in the arrest of those who wished lo find out whether the system used in New Orleans is legal in New York Billy Dtt Bois who is will known in racing circles made wagers with two men named McClitskey and Bradshaw and all the parties to the wager put the amounts involved in the hands cf Ed Salmore to await the result of Ult ¬ ra cc ccSheriff Sheriff Pettit watched the proceedings and ar ¬ rested Du Bois Bradshaw and McCluskey on the charge of making wagers and passing money to a stakeholder Salmore was arrested and charged with being a stakeholder and making a iiieniiirandiiiu of a wager The men were taken before Judge Raisig paroledThe in the Rockaway court and paroled The hearing was set for May 4 before Judge Raisig at Cedarlmrst
