DANGER ROCKS NEWMARKET STAKES That the victory of Mr Belmonts good colt Danger Hock in the mile and a quarter Newmarket Stakes at Newmarket May 12 was of more than ordinary importance may be discerned in the fact that the net value of the race was the neat sum of 14400 All starters carried 12 pounds ami I n don Sportsmans account of the race was as follows A delay of fourteen minutes occurred at the start caused ehielly by the fractiousness of Let Fly whilst White Surrey also caused a good deal of trouble When the barrier finally rosij Let Fly swerved away behind tho others and lost several lengths He made up his lost ground rapidly however and after going a little more than a quarter of a mile wan third to Sydian and Danger Hock and just in front of Canute Going up the hill to the Bushes the lastnamed was beaten and dropped into fourth posi ¬ tion and Let Fly rapidly improving his position assumed the command in the Ablngdon Bottom But in the next few strides he was challenged by Danger Hock and though he fought out the finish gamely enough Danger Hock beat him by three parts of a length four lengths behind the second Tournament was third White Surrey was fourth and Sydian last Time by Bensons chronograph 20975
