Fast Track and Good Weather Combine to Attract a Great Crowd — Close Finishes a Feature of the Last Day of the Meeting. Fort Erie. Ont.. August 11. Caataa M. Ilendries three year-old Rancher showed a high-class perform ance at Fort Brie this afternoon when lie won the Canadian Sportsman Handicap, beating some of the beat handicap horses in training in Canada. Kanohor was ridden by J. Smyth and. under stout restraint for five-eighths, went to the front and. drawing away into i long lead in the last smarter, was fighting; for his head at the finish. The pace was fast from the start, the mile being run in 1:37% and the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45%. At no stage of the running was tile result in doubt. Coiiimon-ada. the early pacemaker, was second and Water bass third. Ranchers victory this afternoon marked his second during the meeting.
