The Montreal Driving Club is the first racing organization in America to aim. mine its dates for nest season. Its first nu-cting will be run from May 2i to May 27 and its second from June 21 to July 1. The report conies from San Diego that Alberto Ma.lero. head of the Bated Mexican family of that name, has joined with II. A. Meaner, promoter of the aeanaaed race track project at Tia Juana. in Lower California near San Diego. Ihe Epsom Derby nominees of 1917 include one voiinirster bv a Derby winner out of an Oaks winner. This is a colt b.v Sunstar from Our Lassie. Although repeated efforts have been made to win the IVrb.-with horses bred in this fashion, the attempt has not yet lieen successful. Racing in Southern Tasmania this season will lie on a more extensive scale than usual, lonsequent upon the formation of the Tasmauian Amateur Jockev Club and the decision of the Hobart Turf Club to hold galloping meetings as well as trots on the Bisdon Park course. These two clubs will provide. Iietween them, eight days ra.-ing. which, needless to say. will be gladly availed of by owners, who were getting tired of the few-and-far-betweeit opportunities afforded them of trying to win sufficient in stakes te warrant horses being kept in training.
