Bonanza Wins in a Canter — Mars Cassidy Outstays Cash on Delivery Luckily — Marion Goosby Takes Another Race. Cincinnati. .. October 15. — Threatening weather and a heavy track detracted from tlie racing at I.atonia this afternoon, but did not operate to prevent a generous patronage, an exceptionally large crowd being 4,11 hand. All the races, except the tlire-.piarters sprint for three-year-olds were under selling conditions, and brought out some useful jdarers. The selling handicap at one mile and an eighth was devoid of much interest. Bonanza, the overwhelming favorite, winning in the easiest kind of fashion, with Alston and lleulah S. following. The race after the first quarter was a procession, with the winner cantering along in front for the entire way. In the three quarters dash Bosco- Hiose was a prohibitive favorite and failed to finish better than third. He was outpaced decisively for the entire race by Marion ioosby and Sparkler. Tlie former was returned a handy winner. Bosc.ie looses showing was esjiecially bad in view of his former performances in soft going. Another odds-on favorite to go down to defeat was Mauasse.i in the second race. She tlatlered her backers in the bad to the stretch, where she tired nil. I failed to secure a place. Change winning from Transport. Hackers of favorites did not fare ■yeH this afternoon, for the failures of Trout Fly, Manasseh, Uoscoe loose, Birle Shixder and Cash on Delivery were costly to them. The finish between Mars Cassidy and Cash on Delivery was stirring, with luck favoring the Schorr representative, which ran close to the inner rail for the entire way. whereas Cash on Delivery-lost enough ground to cost him the race by being forced to come a trifle wide into the stretch. M. Quinns stable, which will be shipped lo Juarez at the close of racing here, scored a double with Bonanza and Lathis, the latter running a good race. While Lindly and Almeda Lawrence were racing J. B. Campbell served as patrol judge, the horses named being owned by W. E. Phillips, the regular pafe Static*. Several owners and jockeys went to Louisville this morning to attend the funeral of jockey Carl Canz. Numerous floral tributes were sent by all of the jockeys and innuy of the horsemen. Frank Bector will race several horses at Havana during the coming winter. II. B. tlorin is another owner who will send his string there at the close of racing here. IL D. Brown, general manager of the Havana track, will arrive here October 23. according to advices received from him by Frank J. Union. lie will disclose on his arrival all his plans for the coming winter meeting and every praspacl favors the shipment of a goodly number of racers to the Cuban track from this point. Jockey Mack Oarner is spending his enforced vacation at his home in Centerville. Iowa, but will return here for the last three days of racing and later go east to ride on the Maryland tracks. apt. Thomas J. Clay, who has lieen ill for some time at his home in Lexington, was among the visitors this afternoon. The good colt Prince Harry will not bo seen under colors again this season according to his owner, who lias decided to retire him until next spring. Several easterners are negotiating for his purchase, but the price asked for him is regarded as high by the prospective buyers. Bingling and Miss Fielder will be sold at auction tomorrow to dissolve the partnership in them between Messrs. Applegate and Weir. The program liook for the last eight davs of this meeting was distributed to the owners" this afternoon. # The stewards were dissatisfied with Smalls riding of Koscoe Goose in the third race and impiired of owner Baker what instructions he had given the rider. They were in contrast to the mcth.xls used by Small and the owner also expressed dissatisfaction with the ride in genral. Small had left the course liefore the stewards could interview him and -he is slated for a hearing. O. A. Bianchi sold J. C. Welch after the fifth race to W. A. McKinney.
