To look over the big track it would be hard to suggest any improvement, so perfect is it in every appointment, but Manager Winn can always find a change that is overlooked by others and. as a conse- quence, there is always work going on at the course, except when the race meeting is on. One of the big racing strings now here is the stable of horses owned by the young Missouri turfman. B. A. Jones, all of whi-h were bred and raised at the Jones breeding establishment near Parnell in that state. The elder Jones recently-died, but the estate will still carry on the big breeding plant, which has become iu recent years about the largest thoroughbred establishment in Missouri. Turfman Jones mother will shortly be here to spend the winter with her son. There are now about forty young mares on the place and there arc thirty weanlings, the largest number yet raised at the establishment. There were nineteen yearlings, foals of 1914. raised on the place. Two of these were sold and the following died this year: Chestnut colt by Harrigan — Old Rose: bay filly by Blues — Miss Van Winkle: chestnut filly by Rapid Water — Willie T.. and hav filly bv Blues — Errant Lady. This leaves thirteen head, all of which, with but one exception, are now iu the Jones training barn at the Juarez track. None of the collection has as yet been named, but all are advanced in their first racing preparation and the stable will be well represented in the early juvenile races here, the first of which will be run on New Years day of 1916- . . . Toe list in full of these promising youngsters is given below : Bav colt by Blue — Reseda, by Pardee. Ray colt by Harrigan— Zela Knight, by Free Knight. Chestnut filly by Harrigan— Top Note, by Ham- burg. ..... . Bav tillv bv Harrigan — Pickaninny, by Cesanon. Chestnut filly by Harrigan — Hester Zora. by Ce- sarion. Bav fillv bv Rapid Water — Orline. by Ingoldsby. Bay Ally by Rapid Water— Lady Hildreth, by Golden Garter. Bav tillv bv Harrigan— Sevenfull. by Edinborough. Brown fillv by Harrigan — Flarney, by Greenan. Chestnut filly by Harrigan — Day peep, by Henn- anee. Chestnut filly by Rapid Water — May Erwin. by Bauquo II. Bay filly by Harrigan— Dandy Dancer, by Gal-n lantry. The latter fillv showed the most speed of any of the big bunch early in the fall, but she will not be able to nice as early the coining year as her stable companion, as she was tired recently for ankle trouble and has had to take a let up in her training as a result. The Reseda colt is a brother to Blue Racer and Little Blues, aud the May Erwin tillv is a sister to Bob Hensley. while the Miss Van Winkle fillv is a half-sister to Thats Me. one of the only pair of two-year-olds Harrigan had racing for hiui this vear. the other being Julia L.. which won four of her live starts in 1915 and is expected by her present owner. J. Livingston, to capture the Ashland and Kentucky Oaks next spring. The onlv vearliug Jones owns, that is not now in his training bam at the Juarez course, is the Laura Bell, by I.a-np-■„ chestnut .-..It bf Harrigan — lighter, which he fired early in the fall aud left at his farm. He will not take him up now until next spring when he takes a string of his horses to the Keiitnekv tracks. It is his intentions to send most of his stable to Churchill Downs and he will make liberal entries in all the big juvenile events on the Kentucky tracks. The onlv old horses Jones now has in his stable are his namesake B. A. Jones. Rapids, Little Blues and Overkniuhl. which swells his Juarez stable to sixteen head. Jones is much impressed with Harrigan as a sire. He seems to breed uniform speed with marked regularity and. moreover, all of his et have ideal dispositions. He does not doubt that. in time, the noted son of Plaudit will send to the races a colt that will win a Kentucky Derby, as did his sire in MM. J. M. Henry had no horses to bring to Juarez this winter as he found it necessary to have Grosvenor turned out and tired, while his good filly Ijidv Rot ha began this fall to show soreness on the track so lie concluded to let her rest up until next year Both of these are now turned out at the Waldeck Farm of Thomas M. Murphy near Louisville. E jockev Jolinnv Henry is at Waldeck Farm now and will remain there all winter to especially exs ercise Lady Rot ha and Groavenor. Henry came t.. Juarez with his voung son. Tommy Henry, whose apprenticeship does not run out until next year. He will let the lad ride here as a free lance and look after his riding engagements himself. The good little rider won his first race at the last winter meeting at Juarez.
