CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. William Garth -has signed Fred Williams to ride . his jumpers next season. Grant Hugh Brown has purchased the four-year-old Magnet. He is being handled by trainer D. R. McDaniel at Gravesend. H. G. Bedwell has received a telegram from i Tia J nana stating that the winter meeting there ; would open Christmas Day and continue for 100 days. II. W. Plant of Saskatoon, in northwestern Canada, has applied for stabling accommodations at t tlie Fair Grounds, New Orleans, for Lord Russell, Marcus and other horses. Four thoroughbred broodmares and two weanlings s recently purchased in England for E. R. Bradley f by trainer Cliff Hamilton arrived at Idle Hour Farm ยป Friday in charge of Johnny Miller. Thomas Welsh is on the way to France to buy v some choice broodmares for J. E. Widener of Philadelphia. It is also reported lhat he contemplates s buying a lot of yearlings in France, but as yet the . name of his client who is concerned in this transaction . has not transpired. N. Byer. who is training the horses of W. Ander son at Pimlico, has been sued for 5,1100 by Miss I Pearl E. Smith of Baltimore, who was seriously injured last Sunday in a collision between an automobile : alleged to have been driven by Mr. Byer and II one in which siie was riding. The Victoria Racing Club Derby was run over the e famous Fleming ton track October 30. before a great t crowd and resulted in the success of Patrobas, with Ii Cet tinge second and Westcourt third. Time. 2:37. . The betting against the placed horses was 4 to 1 1 each against Patrobas and Cettinge and 20 to 1 1 against Westcourt. The horses of Roliert Davies. which this year r hold first place among Canadian-owned stables in n point of winnings, will be sent to Tliorncliffe Farm ,. from Woodbine November 15. to remain until April ,1 1 next. Xiie Thorncliffe Stable will start the season ,, of MM with twenty hor.-es. half of the number r being two-year-olds. E. Ambrose will be the stable f. jockey.
