Iu the last ten years, 1915 included, the high mark iu collective values of the stake races of the Fnited States and Canada was reached in 1907, when the total was the imperial sum of ,548,712. the average value |K-r stake race lieing ,109.80. It is of interest to note that at the Sheepshead Bay track alone that year, hesides other events of lesser value, there were decided Ieter Pans Advance Stakes of 1,750 net v.ilue; Salvideres Annual Champion Stakes, 0,550; Frank Gills Coney Island Jockey Club Stakes, 9,-725; Montgomerys Commonwealth Handicap, 3,850; Ballots Century Stakes, 4,050; Colins Futurity Stakes, 0,040, and his Great Trial Stakes, 9,550; Keep Movings Great Filly Stakes, 1,055: Dinua Kens Lawrence Realization Stakes. 0,880: Nealons Suburban Handicap, 0,800, and his Twin City Handicap, 2,800. and Ieter Pans Tidal Stakes, 5,050. So much for that one great race track, and by way of contrast, the entire racing of this year in North America only provided four stake races which gave the victor 1.000 or more. Worse still, there was a falling off of nearly 00,000 in eonipprison with !914.
