January 5. — There is every reason to believe that the eighteen two-year-olds imported 1 Com France reentry by August Belmont will not race in his colors. At the present time the name : of the prospective buyer is not known. Mr. Bel- : inont is now traveling in the south and will not return until next week. In answer to an inquiry. Mr. Pons. Mr. Belmonts secretary, said "that a ! sale of the horses is in contemplation and that they may pass into other hands." John Kyau. the founder of the Canadian Breeding Bureau, who has been supplying horses for the . allies since the war began, says that horses today ire much more closely inspected than they were a year ago ami that none but perfect specimens are . passed. He has one order for 10.000 head to be shipped bv the end of February. Walter S. House is wintering his horses at the Gentlemens Driving Park at Baltimore and asserts it is an ideal place- to winter. The track is coated with straw, ha says, and only a blizzard would prevent . the galloping of hoists. W. P. Uiggs. secretary of the Maryland Jockey Club, was here yesterday. He says there may oe some legislation in Maryland in connection with racing, but be believes the most important debates will be on the liquor question.
