MORE FAVORABLE WEATHER BHINGS IMPROVEMENT TO NEW ORLEANS TRACK IN ATTENDANCE AND RACING. Harbard Wins All the Way in the Belmont Purse and Dr. Larrick Defeats Marion Goosby in the Dixie Handicap, New Orleans. I,a.. January 19. — An improvement both in the attendance and the racing came in the wake •€ the warmer weather which prevailed this afternoon. Track conditions also were better than on any day this week and ttiis circumstance contributed its share to more interesting racing, as well as for the presence of a better gra.de of ■tarter*. The Belmont Purse and the Pixie Handicap were | " the features and both were contested by some fairly good racers. Some of the finishes were exciting and aroused the big crowd to the highest pitch of enthusiasm. Both features resulted in upsets. Ahara and Marbii Goosby, the respective favorites for each, being beaten. Interference and poor racing luck contributed to their failure. Harbard led all the way in the Belmont purse with Uifle Shooter and Herbert Temple closest at the end. In the handicap. Dr. Larries won from Marion Gooaby, which was unlucky and finished fastest of all. John W. Schorrs Gretchen B. showed a fairly good performance, when she scurried home in advance of Meddling Miss and Beaumont I.ady in the opener. An inner-post position enabled her to win, as Meddling Miss and Beaumont Lady were forced to lose ground by coining wide. Korfhage vvas a ■apposed "good thing" in the second, but he ran a dull race and finished a distant trailer. After the finish GiMirge Heunessv claimed him for ,100. Frank J. Nolan, owner of the Beverwyck Stable. will be represented at this meeting, having secured Cliff Edge from L. J. Casey. Constant labor on the track during the afternoon by the harrow men caused a gradual improvement and it bordered on fast towards the close of the day. William Walters, formerly trainer for Lord Kose-bcry in England, is here visiting with his brother. John Walters, trainer of the George M. Heudrie stable. Before leaving England. William Walters purchased for Mr. Hendries account seven two-year-olds and two three-year-olds, which he accompanied to Gallatin. Tenn.. where the Hendrip horses are wintering.
