Meetings will be held at regular intervals during the month ami will continue through AogUSl and September, so that considering that stake- e,t the value of about a million francs will be provided, it is evident that tin- sport of horse- racing has a bright future before it iu Spain. King Al-fou-o. it is understood, will have an extensive stable of thoroughbreds this year and under his majestys patronage the sport should quickly become a fiour-ising institution. The names of some of the races to be run during July ar- the Grand Prix de St. Sebastien, Prix de Belgique . Prix de France. Prix dBspagne, Prix de Madrid and Prix do Newmarket, so that there will be quite an allied flavor about the programs. The great event during July is to be- the Grand Prix of 100,000 francs lor pesetas, on Sunday. July 2, which is the opening day. Of the sum named. 15,000 francs an- set aside for second, 10,000 for third, ami 5,000 for fourth, leaving the winner 70,000. The distance is 2,400 metres, or about a mile and a half, and the event is open to laree-year-olds and upward on weight-forage terms, with penalties and allowances, amongst the latter being one for horses bred in Spain, while should a Spanish-bred horse win the breeder will receive 2,000 francs.
