NEW ORLEANS TRACK IMPROVING FAST. Unexpected Sunshine Brings Agreeable Change — Excellent Program Arranged for This Week. New Orleans, l.a.. January 23.— Owners and trainers who entered their horses for tomorrows mcea at the Fair Grounds with the expectation of running them iu soft goiug will in all likelihood be disappointed. Steady sunshine lieat down on the course today and the track superintendent and his crew succeeded in getting rid of the moisture. By nightfall the track wss in good condition and. if it does not rain between now and tomorrow afternoon, the going will be almost fast. The past week was the banner one of the meeting to date in every respect, as the horses which contested for the handicaos were of better quality, the better grade of selling platers were seen in several of the high-priced celling handicaps, and the- attendance was above the average, despite the fact that on the first two days of the week the weather was colder here than it has been in years. The way the people turned out for the racing on the col I days astonished even the officials of the Business Mens Pacing Association. one handicap of .00. Ave of 1916.sh00 and I selling handicap worth 00 will be decided during th lining week. The 00 handicap will be run on Saturday, as will one of the 1916.sh00 handicaps, while Thursday will be the only day that there will not hi :i 8886 purse on the program. On this day a selling handicap will be run. On Friday the handicap will be for three-year-olds, but the others will lie for three-year olds and over.
