. : i , FROM WARS REALM TO NEW ORLEANS. Hew Orleans, La.. January 30. — With the gay r carnival season approaching in New Orleans people B are apt to forget the fearful struggle going on in a Europe. There arrived at the Fair Grounds yesterday r postal cards from the trenches which brought forcibly - to the minds of the horsemen the; suffering t that the gallant men from Canada are: enduring. Many of the horsemen at the grounels are Cana- titans and many citizens of the Inited States s racing there make the Canadian circuit and were B liberal contributors to the variooa war funds during the summer. Hie most popular of these finds • was the- one to provide tobacco and candy for the 2 soldiers ill the trenches. Manager Murphy yesterday received acknowledgement - from two of the Canadian contingent, private D. Norwood of the Fourth Infant rv and R. Anderson - of the Second Canadian contingent. Andersons - letter shows the temper of the men in the trenches. It read: ••Received your parcel January 2, 1916. Many f thanks for same. It surely would do you good 1 to see us enjoy your smokes sad we are grateful 1 towards you for your great kindness, and we all 1 join hands with three hearty cheers for you and 1 all. In a few hours we will be smoking your good I health in the trenches. We have a hard task lee-fore • us. bat we- go at it with a good heart, as we ; ku w thai viet ity is sure to be ours in the future."
