• : JOCKEY CLUB OFFICIALS MEN WHO SERVED LAST YEAR IN EASTERN RACING GENERALLY RE-APPOINTED. Racing Dates Discussed, but Not Adopted Yet — Possibility That New York Meetings Will Begin with Jamaica About May 18. New York. February 9. — At a meeting of tin-stewards of the Jockey Club, held today at the oasce of the chairman. August Belmont, the following racing officials were appointed for the year 1910: Judges — C. II. Pettingill and E. C. Smith. Starter — Mars Cassidy . Handieapper — W. S. Vosburgb. Clerk of the Scales — H. V. Homan. Assistant to the Clerk of the Scales — Albert Bur-len. Paddock and Patrol Judge — J. L. Hall. Timer— W. II. Barretto. All associations were recommended to apsjatot J. L. Hall. James McLaughlin and Frank T. Clark as patrol judges. The last named was formerly superintendent of the Coney Island Jockey Clubs track at Sheepshead Bay and has been connected with racing for nearly forty years. Mr. Clark takes the place of Bdward llanua. who has served as patnl judge oa local tracks for several years. The iiuestion of dates was discussed, but owing to a possible re -arrangement of the proposed schedule the allotment is not ready for publication. From what could be learned there will lie little change from the order of last year, except that the opening of the season may occur at Jamaica instead of Belmont Park. A tentative schedule was proposed, which gave each local association about sixteen days, which would carry the racing to July 2.i. This would leave horsemen Sunday and Monday la which to move to Saratoga, where racing will begin August 1. This schedule would necessitate beginning on May IS. or the day following the two-day meeting of the United Hunts at Belmont Park Ter-lninual. There will be a meeting of the Jockey Club members tomorrow to act upon the suggestion of Schuyler L. Parsons in regard to the dis|iosition of exeess run-up nionev in selling races. Mr. Parson* proposed amendment, if adopted, will divide equally between owners of all starters in the race any surplus over the entered selling price of the winner. Heretofore all surplus was divided between the association and the owner of the second horse. Regarding any new members being proposed these is no indication, as propositions have to be made in writing and up to the present time the secretary of the Jockey Club has received no notice of any new member to lie proposed. Gifford A. Cochran received word today from his Runnyinede farm at Mt. Kisco that bis mare Veil had foaled a fine bay colt to Star Shoot. Veil is the dam of Vauitie. which was sent to England in 1914 to Ixuis Winans and proved his natality by winning one race in England as a two-year-obi and three races last year. Vanitie holds a record of having won a race at Belmont Iark on June is and then being shipped to England, beat sune good horses on Ihiglish soil on September 12. This is probably the first instance of a two-year-old being sent from this country which won abroad daring his two-year-old year. Mortimer Mahouey was in New York today look-ing after business in connection with the Bou le track. "We expect to liegin racing at Bowie April 1." said Mr. Mahoney. "Manager OTlara has made many improvements in the track and its appont ments. The lawn has lieen extended and the hill in the infield has been cut down. Several horse* are being wintered at Bowie and have been worked on the track every day."
