The anti-sports have obtained more than their proper proportion of power in late years, but at heart the rank and file of Englishmen are sportsmen, and the knowledge that our late king supported yachting anil horse racing added to his popularity. It can also be truly stated that the fact of King George being one of the best shots with the gun in Europe is of much worth. Not only does it give the lie to a silly assertion unmet hues heard, but it also pleases the average man to think of the king as an exiM-rt shot." Race followers will hardly know the Hamilton Jockey Club plant when the meeting opens there in June. Where the bookmakers once stood the •"iron men" have been installed ready to do business. There are forty machines and plenty of room in the aisles. The price paid for the lilly is said to have been ,000. Oscar Lewisohn has changed his plans as to u sale of his racing stable, which he had provided for. when he found that he would lie coni|Hlled by business interests to spend the summer abroad.
