NEAR THE CLOSE AT BOWIE ONLY ONE MORE DAY AND THEN RACING CHANGES TO HAVRE DE GRACE. Presumption Defeats Gloaming and Pontefract in the Principal Race — Several Winners Bid Up — Jockey Ambro.o Given a Suspension. I.altimore. M.I., April 13. — The running of the Capital Handicap, which was offered as the carded feature at Howie this afternoon, resulted in an easy victory for James MacManus Presumption over .■learning and Iontefract. J. McTaggart. who had the mount on the winner, urged the son of Golden Maxim into a long early lead, which he maintained to the finish. Olonming, the favorite, borc-d out continually, but came with a rush at the end. A slight shower which fell shortly lefore the running of the opening dash served to lay the dust and keep the going at its best. Again a large delegation of racing enthusiasts was on hand As on other days, the cheaper grade of horses were catered to. but well matched fields ruled throughout. The racing was of a spirited character, close finishes ruling. Favorites were again in eclipse, but well-supported horses were returned winners. Selling race activities were renewed, the first runup following the victory of Lady London in the second race. M. Daly was responsible for the bidding, which forced her owners to stand a 05 runup over her entered price of 00 to retain her. Ida Claire, which made a show of her opposition in the third, was advanced 00 and was retained by A. C. Farretto at 05. William MacManus came over from New York today to enjoy an afternoon of racing. Jockey T. McTaggart arrived at I.altimore from Louisville this morning and will lie seen in the saddle at Havre cle Orace, where he will report |0 James Uowe to assist in preparing the Harry 1ayne Whitney horses for the races. Archie Zimmc-r has sold his good plater Ancon to II. A. Ferguson and he raced for his new owner in the second race. F. Harlan has purchased Costumer from the Quincy Stable and N. K. Deal has bought Richard Langdon. A shipment has l een made up for Montreal consisting of Q. C. Morelan.l. eight horses; R. D. Carter, eight; B. Whalen, five; K. Ferguson, two; P. K. Fitzgerald, three; J. F. Smith, four, and J. J. Lindsay, one. These will leave at the close of the Dowie meeting. B. S. McK inlay has bought back the plater Sir Dyke. Lewis Garth moved over to Iimlico from Denning today with a string of twenty horses. E. F. Whitney transferred eight to the same track, and . It. Tompkins reached the Baltimore course with eight from his Virgina farm, while Ben Pope brought five, the pr»i erty of J. W. Fenwick. Most of these horses are jumpers. Kdward M.Iiride today moved his string of racers from the Driving lark at Baltimore to Havre de Crace. II. !. Dedwell has gone to Havre de Grace with his string from his farm near Laurel. A. C. larretto disposed of the colt Good Counsel to R. Stagiuau at private sale, following his acquisition out of a selling race this afternoon. For his unsatisfactory riding of i; learning in the fourth race and Typography in Hie fifth race, jocyey K. Ambrose was susiK-uded* and his case referred to the Jockey Club.
