BIG SMOKE WORKS A GOOD MILE EASILY. Louisville. Ky.. April 13. — The fastest Derby work of this spring was done at the Churchill Downs track today by Dig Smoke, which ran a mile in 1:45. He- ran the first quarter in 25. three-eighths in 37V., the half in 50-., and three-quarters in 1:17. Slipshod covered a mile in 1:40. Star Hawk. The Cock and Hesperus. A. K. Ma-conib.-rs three Derby eligibles, worked a half together in 52. At I»ouglas Dark the Derby candidates Dodge and Franklin covered a quarter iu 27. preliminary to a work-out tomorrow, and Lulielski galloped a mile in 1:49. covering the first half in M% and seven-eighths i:i 1:37.
