AMBITIOUS FOR PIMLICO MARYLAND JOCKEY CLUB WAKES UP AND ENRICHES ITS FALL STAKE PROGRAM. Rhine Maiden Defeats Top o th Morning and Uncle Bryn in the Featuro Race — Rhymer in Front — Active Claiming. Baltimore, Md.. May S. — Pimlico is now midway of one of the best meetings in its history. The at-tendance has been of record-breaking proportions throughout a.id the racing thoroughly enjoyable, even though jt may have lacked something in high-class hor-a»s. Good judges were of the opinion that Saturdays crowd was the largest seen at Pimlico since the present Maryland Jockey Club came into cont-ol of the siiort. Every corner and crevice of the plant was packed and it was uncomfortable in getting about. The betting ring was crowded to suffocation and the iron men did the biggest business ;;ince their installation at Pimlico. To supplement the recent announcement that no purse at the atitirmn meeting. November 1 to 13, will be less than 00. the Maryland Jockey Club has decided on the following stakes to be run at the coming fall meeting: Green Spring Valley Autumn Handicap Steeplechase, for four-year-olds and over. ,000 added; entries at S10 each will close nliout June 1; two and one-liaJf miles. KIkridge Steeplechase, for three-year-olds. ,000 added; entties will close about September 5; two miles. Howie Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, ,500 added: entries will close" about Scptemlier 5; one and one -half miles. Walden Stakes, for two-year-olds, ,000 added; entries will close about Septemlier 5: one mile. Pimlico Autumn Selling Stakes, for three-vear-olds ami over. SI. .".Ml added: winner to be sohl at auction for ,500: one pound allowed for each 00 to ,000: entries will close about September 5; one and one-quarter miles. The richest stake is offered for the jumpers. The patrons of the Maryland Jockey Club have always taken a great interest in the steeplechase contests at Pimlico and the Maryland Jockey Club has given proportionately more jumping races than any other association in this country, having averaged a jumping race each day since the Maryland Jockey C!tb revived racing at Pimlico in 1904. This record could never have been attained if the owners of jumpers had not at all times given the association liberal support. The Dow ie ami the Walden are the old stakes for flat racers. More sentiment attaches to the P.owie. for it was a name taken over from the old Maryland Jockey Club. The added money in the Dowie has been more than doubled, as compared with that given last year and the distance reduced to one mile and a half, upon the belief that these changes will attract the best horses in training at the late season of the year at which the autumn meeting is held. The Walden has always been one of the features of the autumn meetings. The five stakes aggregate 4,000 in added money, bring divided ,000 in two stakes for jumpers and ,000 in three stakes for flat runners. The Clubhouse Handicap, which was offered as the feature this afternoon brought out a high-class band of sprinters to go the seven-eighths route. Khine Maiden, from the stable of Edward F. Whitney, ridden by J. MeCuliey. was returned an easy winner over Top o* th Morning and Uncle ISryn. The claiming purse, for two-year-olds was won by Uhymer in a spirited drive with Lobelia ami Lucile P. The following claims were made after the running of the fourth race: George Phillips. H. G. Declweli and Sam Louis claimed Couowingo and in the drawing Phillips got the filly. W. F. Ires-gracs and Lewis Garth put in claims for Rhymer and Garth won the draw. Mrs. S. McNaughtou claimed Lobelia. Senator K. A. Johnson and a party of friends will leave Laurel tomorrow for Louisville to witness the running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday next. J. Y. Fleischmann will send Ahara to Belmont Park Terminal to take part in the races there on Saturday. J. Howard Lewis will take the J. E. Widener string to Belmont Park and Ahara will go in the car. Lewis W. Garth announced that he had changed his plans for the spring campaign and will ship to Toronto instead of Belmont Park. This means that the E. D. McLean string will take part in the Woodbine Park meeting. Steeplechase jockey T. Tuckey was suspended for the vest of the meeting by the stewards. There will be a meeting of the Horsemens Association tom.irrow night.
