Slipper Day, Sir John Hendries good mare, has been retired from the course and mated witli Charles Edward. She was one of the fastest horses ever raised ill-Canada and the largest money -winner among the progeny of Martimsls. Lena Misha worked the fastest Derby trial of the season at the Down course Sunday. He went the full route, one mile ;,nd a quarter, in 2.98% and pulled up fresh. He had L. Mink up. Lord Derby, who was head of the Dritish recruiting scheme, and who is expected shortly to take a seat in the cabinet, won the One Thousand Ouineas Friday with his filly Canyon at 9 to 2 in the wagering. Mr. E. Hulton Fifinella was second and Mr. L. Xenma nns Salamamlra third. Canyon is also named by Iord Derby for the New Derby and the New Oaks, to he run at the end of May. He also h.s Fhalaris in the greatest English race, which has never been won by a holder of the earldom of Derby. Canyon is by Chaucer — Olasalt. Wise Judge, b. h, 5, by Golden Maxim — Verdict, won his seventh race this year in South Africa, when en March 4 lie carried off the three-quarters Flyiag Handicap of 00 at Cape Town. He won by two and a half lengths. Another winner out of Verdict is Not Guilty, which won the Iremio du Municipio de Dome a steeplechase worth 08 to the winner at Home. Italy, on March 30. Carrying top weight. 150 pounds, he won by one and a half lengths from tin other starters. Doth Wise Juoge and Not Ouilty were bred by Henry T. Ox-nard at the Dlue Uidge Stud, Virginia. The death is announced in the Dcrlin newspaper D.iilsi-her Sport of the English horse Kilcock. which went to Hungary as a stallion in 1901. the Hungarian government having given 5.009 guineas to obtain possession of him. Kilcock, by Kilwarlin out of Donnie Morn, was the property of Captain Oreer and was a race horse of exceptional speed. He took part in thirty races, of which he won sixteen. As a stallion Kilcock was not a noteworthy success. though his progeny won over fifty races in Austria and Hnngary. One of his sons was Aides, owned by Damn Springer, whose colors he carried in sever.-l races in F.ugland just prior to the war. Aides was seized and sold as the property of an alien enemy. i
