GREAT SPRINTER IRON MASK IS DEAD. Was a Hcrse of International Fame and a Winner in Five Different Countries. The extremely fast sprinter Iron Mask died of pneumonia at Lexington Saturday night. Iron Mask had the distinction of having raced successfully in England, the Cnited States, Canada. Mexico and Cuba. In 1913 he set the American record for three-quarters of 1:M% and reduced that mark to 1:09% at Juarez the following winter. At Juarez he also set a new American record for five and one-half furlongs at 1 :03% with 150 pounds up. He was raced in England by H. I". Whitney, where he was in the first rank as a sprinter and won a number of stake races. There he turned roarer and. being brought back to this country, was sold to J.
