HARRY KELLY A REAL STAR WINS THE BREEDERS FUTURITY IN RUNAWAY FASHION AND FAST TIME. Brilliant End of the Lexington Meeting with a Great Crowd and Several New Track Records —Old Grover Hughes Beaten. Lf Lexington, Ky., May 10.— Before an attendance of record-break iug size. .John W. Schorrs good colt Harry Kelly, gave a performance that will linger lonjf in the memory of those who witnessed it when he accounted for the riidi Brooders Futuritv Makes and ran live -eighths of a mile in 5S%, re-duciliK the mark of 1:00% hold by Checks, and lowering the colors of the popular and highly retarded Westy Hogan. in the easiest fashion Imaginable. Harry Kelly showed a sensational flight of Jtpeed from the outset ami had Westy Hogan. his closest attendant, on his full stride to keep pace With him. He acted fractiously at the post and by his wheeling tactics delayed the send-off. but when the barrier was released, he immediately went uboilt his task in race horse fashion and took a •food lead, lie went tin- quarter in 22 seconds and tit this point he was two lengths in front. His next quarter was run in 24 seconds, making 46 seconds for the half. Westy Hogan at this point was put to a drive and a moment later, when Harry Kelly showed an inclination to bore out, it ap-jieured as if the favorite would pass into the lead, but Garner strut k Harry Kelly a smart wrap across the head and he refrained further from boring out. During the last eighth he drew out with ease amid H din that was deafening. Five lengths back came Westy Hogan and a similarly distance further back followed Yermila. with Midway and Frank Cole-iii an trailing. Westy Hogans share of the purse was ,087, Yennilas 43.50 and Midway got back his starting fee of 50 by landing in fourth place. There was a rumor of an injury to Westy Hogans right knee before the race and he showed a slight swelling, but it is not thought to be of any consequence. Get-away day and ideal weather, coupled with the splendid card, were factors towards bringing out the biggest crowd in the history of this track. The racing was highly interesting throughout the afternoon with fast time made in all the race. The meeting just terminated has been the most successful in every particular that has lieen held at this track. It has forcibly brought to the attention of the management, how wholly inadequate it is to the growing racing conditions in this section of the country and they are planning extensively for remodeling anil bring the course up to requirements. Had the ring facilities been adequate, it would have meant considerable more financial returns to the association. Enough money was shut out during the meeting, it is said, to" have paid current expenses. Todays attendance was likewise the most representative that has gathered here in some time and included many notables in the racing world. Charles F. Grainger and Matt. J. Winn headed a big delegation from Louisville, while B. F. Carman brought a delegation from lSaltimore. Conning Tower added to the brilliancy of the afternoons racing by equaling the three-quarters record of 1:12. after a rattling drive to outstay Chalmcrs. The overthrow of trover Hughes by The Grader in the second race was a stunner for the majority. who regarded Grover Hughes as invincible after his double victory over some of the best here. The exodus of iurfmen from here will begin tonight when the F.lrod special departs or Louisville and will have aboard a big delegation of owners trainers, jockeys and the mutuel crew. Captain Thomas J. Clay after the fifth race announced that they had reopened the case against E. T. Colton and pending further investigation had suspended him. Captain Clay also added that Colton. who is at present in Louisville, had telegraphed here requesting that charges preferred by Audress be made m writing which Andress has done before a notary public. J. H. Stamper. .Ir.. owner of Prince Harry, stated today that the extent of the injury to the colt had not been fully determined as yet, but it is thought that he suffered a wrench or a rupture of the suspensory ligaments. There was some mild excitement in the paddock just before the stake lace, when a small blaze was discovered on the roof of the jockeys room. It was soon extinguished by a bucket brigade of volunteers among thf- valets. W. O. Parmer came over from Nashville to view the running of the Breeders Futurity and will remain to witness the Derby at Ixmisville. Jockey Murphy had a field day. piloting four winners, due Step made it a double for .1. N. Camden and etablished a new r -cord when she went the ntilf and an eighth in 1:50%.
