GETTING TOGETHER IN CALIFORNIA. The initiative measure of a state racing commission and pari-mutuel form of wagering, that was proposed to MM before the voters in November, has. been withdrawn. Edward K. Smith of Ocean Park, a prime mover for the measure, announces that he has notified Attorney -O* teal Webb to return the measure, which has been submitted to him to write a title. In explaining his action Smith says that the Begistered Horse Itreeders Association, which he represents, thought it was for the best interests of the breeding industry in California to withdraw. There was a deal of disagreement over the method of procedure. I.reeders as a body favor a racing commission and pari-mutuels. but deem it more advisable to take the matter up with the legislature when it meets shortly after the lirst of the year. Smith pledges the support of the Registered Breeders Association if a law similar to the one be has been proposing is taken up in the legislature. He calls upon the bene interests in California to unite and work for some favorable legislation. The Golden Gate Thoroughbred Breeders Association of San Francisco is at present at work on a bill to 1m- presented. It will Im- similar in nature to the Kentucky law. which has operated so successfully for the last ten years. It calls for a state racing commission and pari luutuel syst-m oi wagering. Limiting Meetings to a certain number of days and providing revenue for the state will also be taken up.
