COMELY IN FORM AGAIN AND A WINNER. Defeats Phosphor in Belmont Parks Main Race — Madden Fillies First and Second. New York. May 20. — Todays attendance was good for a day following the auspicious sfaaahsg of yesterday. Four of the six races carded were run over the straightaway course. An allowance race at five and a half furlongs served as the clays feature and brought together some shifty sprinters. Two two-year-old races, a Steeplechase and two thrcc-eaartet races estapssed the rest of the program. The weather was delightful when the first race was called and the track continued fast. Following the sterling victory of Mure-ellinus in yesterdays steeplechase, horsemen are prone to regard the- Groentroe Stables jumper as perhaps the heat in training and it seems assured that he will Ik- a powerful factor in the jumping stakes to be decided this year. The majority of the horses belonging to It. T. Wilson, according to trainer T. J. Healey, are coughing which accounts for the seal ty representation of this popular stable in the daily programs. Tootsic was made a decided favorite for the first race, but ran all over the track from the rise of the barrier. She swerved from one side of the track to the other and thereby lost all chances. The winner turned up in Badiaut Flower, which ran straight throughout, beating Bcmllct and Old Drury. The latter swerved and crossed Jove and Chelsea, destroying any chances they had. It was the first victory lor Godfrey Creocc in the east. John E. Madden showed a likely pair of two-year-old fillies in the third race in Cheer, a daughter of Plaudit and Impressing, ami Yankee Witch, by Ogele n— Kvcnt. They finished first and second. Leonie was an odds-ou choice for the race and cinit early. The five and a half furlongs allowance race was run over the straightaway anil enabled James Butlers good filly Comely to display a grand burst of speed. She dashed to the front with the rise of the barrier and held a lead of several lengths throughout, with Chospor, the favorite, in closest attendance to the end. The Balers of Thomas Hitchcock were borne to victory in the steeplechase by Hustler in a drive with Superhuman. After footsies defeat she was claimed by Kini-hal iatterson for . In the last race of the day Chamicuse just managed to outstay the heuvilv-baeked Cy Merrick. J. Sail fori I received a cable from France that Frank ONeill had accepted the mount on Nnsso-vian in the New Derby, to be run next Wednesdav at Newmarket. England. Jockey F. Keogh suffered an injury to his foot yesterday, which kept him out of the saddle today. J. W. Smith. Frank Shannon and Martin Foley are among the westerners noted on tin- lawn. Jockey J. Irccee was suspended ten days yesterday by order of the stewards for cutting across in the third race. Belmont Bark work-outs on the main track, with the going fast, were: Alvord— Half mile in 1:00.
