MONTREAL DATES NOT YET SETTLED. Montreal, Que., August 17. The local racing situation, as regards the dates for the minor tracks, lias not yet been entirely straightened out. Mount Royal will race on the dates formerly allotted to King Edward Park, August 19 to lit!, thus opening on Saturday next. The King Edward Park meeting will open August 28 and will probably be of only six days duration that is, if there is any meeting at the island track. The management is ; still discussing the matter, but insists there will be no purses over 00, an amount for which the horsemen refuse to race. The Mount Royal meeting will find competing a better class of horses than has ever raced over any of the second circuit tracks in Canada. The management of the Rack River Jockey Club has determined to make the meeting one of the most attractive ever offered horsemen in Montreal and will make a general increase in purses. Numerous improvements have been made to the course since the first meeting this season in July. A new paddock will be read- for the meeting, while the betting enclosure has been almost doubled in size, which will eliminate congestion.
