MUDDY GOING AT MOUNT ROYAL TRACK. Montreal, Que., August 23. The going was slower at Mount Royal track tliis afternon than it has been on any day since the opening of the meeting, this being due to a heavy overnight thunderstorm. Although it was slower than on the previous days of the meeting, the owners who scratched, fearing a muddy course, made a mistake, as it had dried oilt pretty well before the running of the first race and improved as the afternoon went along. The first upset for the public came with the running of the first race, when Princess Fay beat Bright and Early. At the sixteenth post Claver cut over on Bright and Early with Princess Fay and was lucky to escape being disciplined for it. A crowd surrounded the judges stand, evidently expecting a disqualification, but the result was allowed to stand and the patrons took the placing in good part. AAhen Claver crowded over. Forehand, who hail the mount on Bricht and Early, struck him with his whip. AAord was received from AVindsor today that work on tin; third track at that place, to be known as Devonshire Park, has been under way for the past few days. The management of the club will hold a meeting towards the end of this week to eject a directorate. Secretary Thomas Duggan of the Back River Jockey Club, who has been on the ailing list for a few days, was at the coitrse for a short time this morning, but did not stay for the racing in the afternoon. .
