MELIA sprinted into an easy lead in the lirst eighth and easily held the others safe all the way. THISTLE QUEEN raced in closest pursuit and ran in much improved form. TARTAREAN was outrun for the first half, but came through on the inside when entering the homestretch and, finishing fast, outgamed LADY CURZON. The latter raced gamely, but tired when it came to the final drive. ARMINE made a wide turn when entering the homestretch, but finished fast. CORN BROOM set a good pace to the stretch and tired. RANCHER, after racing in closest pursuit, wore JANE STRAITH down in the homestretch, and was drawing clear at the end. but pulled up lame. ARRIET was saved for three-quarters and outgamed COLONEL VENNIE iu the final drive. The latter began slowlv and moved up rapidly on the far turn, but tired after coming wide into the homestretch. GIPSEY GEORGE tired after setting a good pace to the stretch turn.
