RAIN COMES TO HAVRE DE GRACE. Lena Kisha Captures Feature Race and Defeats Hanson Blue Thistle Wins and Is Bid Up. Baltimore. Md., September 1.1. The spell of warm weather in this section was broken today by rain, which was responsible for wholesale scratching, the best race of the day, an all aged handicap, being the chief sufferer from withdrawals. The running of this race however, brought the three-year-old Lena Mis ha into limelight, when he scored from Hanson in easy fashion. This colt after winning a stake at Belmont Park last year developed ringbones, which was responsible for his being thrown out of training. This year, however, he had trained better and was a contender for the Kentucky Derby. Today was his first winning effort of the year, and the easy manner in which he disposed of Hanson, marks him as one that maj; be a factor with high class horses in muddy going. He drew away with consummate ease after showing a high turn of speed. Blue Thistle won the fourth race, a high grade selling affair, from Vermont after the latter had essayed to make a runaway of it. The day started off well for the followers of form. Fairy Wand and Edna Kenna rewarded their hackers and the remainder of the card was about equally divided between well-backed contenders and outsiders. Blue Thistle was the medium for some spirited bidding after lie acconnted for the fourth race. The gelding was advanced to 2.505 by Eugene Wayland and J. W. Iledrick, but was protected by his owner. Claims were filed for Edna ICenna after she scored in the second race by Sam Louis and II. G. Bedwell. The latter secured her for 000. S. L. Parsons and Andrew Miller were among the arrivals and will remain to witness the running of the Chesterbrook Handicap tomorrow. Harry F. Brievogel. assistant manager of the Laurel track, arrived today and was busy alloting stables for the Laurel meeting. It is expected that this year will be the most successful in the history of that track. General Manager Burke will have his men at work all night on the track in the hope of having a good course for the big race of tomorrow, the Chesterbrook Handicap, for which Roamer. Strom -boli. The Finn, Borrow. Short Grass" and Bayberry Candle have been named. This is one of the best fields gotten together this year at any point, and a great many New Yorkers are expected to come over to see the race. Commencing" tomorrow, the train leaving New York daily at 10:0S a. m., which is due at Havre de Grace at 1:45, will stop at the Havre de Grace station. Bubble, from the II. P. Whitney stab.le, pulled up quite lame after working this morning and showed symptoms of a spread foot. A. McL. Earlocker, secretary of the Westchester Racing Association, was a visitor today and brought down the checks for the horsemen and jockeys due from the recently closed Belmont Park meeting. E. J. MeBride was an arrival from Lexington, where he was a purchaser of several yearlings at the recent sale. Ilis purchases will be shipped to the Baltimore Driving Park. Sam Louis arrived from Montreal and Sam Most came from the same place. A. G. Blakeley, who has quite a few yearlings at Gravesend, was a visitor today. He had not decided whether he will race next winter or not. Emil Hera has sold Devil Fish to J. M. Zim-nier at private sale and T. J. Healey lias disposed of Glanaginty to .1. W. Pangle. The mare Task broke down this morning while working and will be retired for use as a broodmare.
