MAYOR 3EHRMAN DECLARES HIMSELF. New Orleans, La.. September 10. Mayor Martin Bohmian. In a statement made today, declared that he would not tolerate free gates and other evils of a dual race-track system here, but that the civic authorities would take hold of the -situation and see that the racing is conducted on u high plane. Mayor Behnnan wants it understood that he will not stui-dfor the running of races for commercialism alone, but wants the sport conducted on a plane above mere greed for personal or financial advantage. Dr. George A. MacDIarmid. president of the Business Mens Racing Association, said that his body was highly elated over the action of the Thoroughbred Horsemens Association at Lexington, and feels sure that the Fair Grounds will be the only track to operate.
