THRIVING AT DEVONSHIRE MEETING CONTINUES TO DRAW LARGE PATRONAGE AND SUCCESS IS ASSURED. Hauberk Takes the Sprinting Handicap in a Close Finish with Fruit Cake Amazonian No Longer a Maiden Hawthorn Wins and Is Claimed. Windsor, Ont., November 1. There was a marked increase in the attendance at Devonshire Park this afternoon, as a result of warmer and brighter weather. The offering consisted of the usual seven races, including a handicap for all ages at three-quarters, which brought together a speedy band. The handicap went to J. F. Sweeneys Hauberk in a hard drive with the two-year-old, Fruit Cake. Baoul and Harry L., coupled as the J. C. Ferriss entry, ruled favorite, and the former was third at the finish. The track continued fast and the mutuel dividends were again liberal, while the racing was of an interesting nature, the finishes in the majority of instances being close. Trainer J. II. Moody uncovered a promising maiden when Amazonian graduated in the second race. Miss Tipperary was second in this race. She swerved under the whip and went over to the rail, which detracted from her chances. G. A. Alexandra claimed Hawthorn after he Avon the fourth race today for ,150. Hawthorn ran a good race today and was being pulled up at the end. The card for Thursday includes two handicaps. These races have been popular with the owners and have drawn good entries each afternoon. The two of Thursday have brought out the best horses at the course. Judge Sheridan Clarke will go from here to Montreal to look over the plant at Dorval in the absence of Manager W. F. Presgrave, who is at, Pimlico. F. Hennessey claimed Hayden for 50 after he won the closing race on Tuesday and T. H. Wilson claimed the horse Amulet for ,150 after he was beaten in the closing race. I. IC. McDaniel, trainer for Grant Hugh Browne, will ship Mr. Brownes stable from Devonshire Park to the farm at Goshen, N. Y., and later on the horses in training will go to New Orleans for a winter campaign. McDaniel has a number of yearlings to be broken at Goshen for Mr. Browne. Jockey At Cluver will go along with trainer McDaniel to New York to break the yearlings and try them out. Belle Terre has been placed on the schooling list by starter Tribe. She caused a delay of five minutes at the post on Tuesday afternoon. Starter Edward Tribe will go from here to Tijuana, where he is to do the starting at the coming winter meeting. Tribes work at Devonshire Park has been beyond criticism, in spite of the fact that he has had several bad actors to cope with each afternoon. W. Hope has decided to ship his horses to Havana after the meeting at Devonshire Park. He will race next winter at Oriental Park. II. D. Brown left tonight to visit the other racing centers. He went from Windsor to Pimlico and from there he will go to Bowie. Steward Martin Nathanson will go from here to his home in Chicago, from where in due time he will go to Havana to serve as racing secretary and presiding judge at Oriental Park. Trainer McDaniel was given permission by the stewards to run Canon Bridge without blinkers today.
