CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. A. A. Gregg lias retired the mare Jewel of Asia to the stud in Colorado. Walter S. Heath is breaking George W. Wing-fields yearlings at Reno, Ner. Edward McBride, acting for T. J. Elward, has disposed of the plater Cusco to Frank Garret. Jefferson Livingston has added the two-year-old filly Diamond to his stable. Jockey H. Jeffcott will go to Pinllico with the division of twelve horses that Mose Goldblatt will take to that Maryland track from Kentucky. The sum of 0,000 has been deposited in the Hibernian Bank and Trust Company, of New Orleans, to the credit of II. D. Brown by Dr. George A. MacDiarmid, president of the Business Mens Racing Association as the first payment oil the purchase of the City Park race track. One of the most important Australian fixtures for three-year-olds, the Caulfield Guineas, at a mile, was run at Caulfield, Victoria, October 14, and was won by Etterfred, with Wolaroi second and Mehi King third. Etterfred won by a length and a half in 1:41 and was at 14 to 1 in the betting. The Hungarian St. Leger was won recently at Buda Pesth by Baron A. de Rothschilds Austrian Derby winner, Sanskrit, with G. Janek up. the son of St. Frusquin and La Sage winning easily by a length and a half from five others, of which Proba was second and Favolas third. The race was worth 5,025 and odds of 5 to 3 were laid on the winner in the totalisator. The totalisator contractors at Avondale are reported to have made a heavy loss on the Hack Welter Handicap, when, through an error, Dancas-ters dividend was posted as considerably more than he should have returned. Before the mistake was discovered the dividends had been distributed on 151 pound tickets and 179 ten shilling tickets. On pound tickets the excess was a pound and three shillings. Sydney Referee.
