i LONGEST ESTABLISHED RACE ON EARTH. The historic race for the Newmarket Town Plate was run over the Newmarket July Course for the two hundred and fifty-first time yesterday afternoon, when C. W. Stevens walked over on Basil Jan-is Kingswood. The articles regarding the race were drawn up by order of King Charles II. in 1600, who directed that the race be run at noon on the second Thursday in October, for ever. The course is four .mile out and home, . Mr. Albert Manning, the Jockey Clubs clerk of the scales, officiated as starter. London Sportsman of October 9.
