CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. R. L. Baker will ship his string from Lexington to New Orleans after a months rest. John O. Whitlows string, including Westy Hogan, has arrived at the Kentucky Association track at Lexington from Latonia. Leochares Avon his race at Pimlico Saturday by a length and a half over J. J. Lillis, and not by five lengths, as printed in the chart. Former jockey J. Baird, who has arrived at El Paso for the Juarez meeting, reports that the speedy Billy Mayham. a noted sprinter on Pacific coast tracks for many years, is still racing in the cowboy relay pony races in .Montana. He is now nineteen years old and is in the string of Steve Adams, together with the thoroughbreds Bill Finn and Queen Ruth. Ed Trotters stable will shortly go into winter quarters at Charleston, S. C. Black Broom lias a spread hoof, and Pomp was kicked while at the post for his last nice. Trotter will take to New Orleans a number of horses, including Pif Jr., belonging to R. L. Baker of Lexington. Ky. There are several stake races to be run during the meeting at distances which will suit Pif Jr. Friday will see the running of the Bowie Handicap, a long-established feature of the Pimlico fall4 meeting. This event is over the trying route of a mile and a half, and its ,500 in added money makes it the richest stake run over the flat in Maryland this year. Thirty are eligible to start, but it is certain only a small number will sport silk. On Monday next the Pimlico Autumn Selling Stakes, with 1,500, will be the closing feature, and tills race calls for three-year-old and over to journey the mile and a quarter route.
