EXPECTATION ran close in pursuit of the pacemaker from the start, moved up gamely when going to the sixteenth fence and was going away at the end. BELLE OF BRYN MAWR raced into the lead in the last mile, but tired and just outstayed FALMOUTH. The latter responded gamely when called on and was gaining on the leaders in the last fifty yards.
