WICKLLFFE STABLES GRAND COLLECTION. Forty-One Horses in the String at Churchill Downs Two-Year-Olds Names, Louisville. Ky., February IS. — Undoubtedly the finest -bred and grandest collection of young horses — two and three-year-olds — wintered at the Churchill Downs track in this city in many years, is the aggregation of costly horseflesh embraced in the extensive racing establishment of Messrs. Corrigan and MeKinney in training for the spring campaign on the Kentucky tracks under the watchful eyes of ■In! n Whalen. The string numbers forty-one head, with not one over three years old. All are highly prized by their owners and their aggregate value would reach into many thousands of dollars. There are a number in the collection that could not be parebaa ti at any price. The best thoroughbred blood is represented in the collection, many being the get of Americas most Bated sires. Son"! aatl daughters of such former turf stars as CoUn, Delhi, Sweep, Disguise, and others, only a trifle less illustrious, are to be found in the ranks of the establishment. Ever since entering racing. Price MeKinney. the senior partner of the firm, has fostered the ambi ion of same day witnessing the carrying of his colors by horses exclusively of his own breeding. The coming season his ideals are about to be . ha st wholly realized. faaaBMKfe as practically every horse in the stable is a product of the Wick-liffe Stud. The exceptions are a few of the two year olds that were dropped in this country by nuurea bought in England and brought over wbJk iu foal. The two-year-olds now ssaarfarhd at the Downs track number twenty-six head, and aside from the J. E. Madden string, is the largest collection of juveniles at any local track. Five of them are by litmus, and the saBM number by Delhi, four are the get of Colin, and two each by Sweep anil Disguise. The Colin yoaagstera are a fine looking head, and include Noontide, a half sister to High Noon; Shepherd King, a half brother to Luke lie-Lake; Herder, a half brother to Black Toney. and Cimpadre. a splendid looking black son of Playmate. Felicitation, a black filly by Delhi— Felicity Murrat. is regarded as one of the coming stars. Names of Twenty -SU Two-Year-Olds. All of the taa /ear-aide have been named and registered, and for the first time the full list is herewith appended. Mrs. James Corrigan. who previous to her marriage a few months ago was a well-known New York writer, was entrusted with the task of naming the youngsters and did her task well. In addition to the two-year-olds, the stable has fifteen three-year-olds, among the number being several tiiat showed gotal form in their two-year-old stage. The older division is headed by the five Kentucky Derby candidates Acaludo. Assume. Conduit. Swan Sting and Vague. Out of this quintet tin- stable hopes to get one or more that will ably n present it in the Kentucky Derby the afternoon of May 12. She is a bay filly by Ben Brush — Iink Domino and is then fore a sister to the great Swoop. Traim-r V.iu.hn is going along carefully with their training. Mi. YVhalcns long years of eerriee in the employ of August Btlniout fits him for the work of training such a large bead of young horses, and thus far he has been most fortunate, for not a single case of serious illness has be n reported among the number since their shipment here fast fall. At present all of the horses are enjoying splendid health, anil taking their work to the satisfaction of their trainer. The stable this year will command the services of two capable riders — Mack Gal Bel ami Ben Kleeger. The former beaded the list of winning riders at the recent Juarez meeting, where he outclassed the other boys. He N now resting at his home iu Cea-trerUle, Iowa, and will report to trainer Whalea March 1. It is possible he may go to New Orleans to rhfa Iif Jr. in a stake the I fallal day of the meiting. Bob Baker having wired to Whalen requesting tue boys services. Kleeger, who will do the light weight riding for the stable, is now tilling nt Havana.
