NOMINATIONS TO THE KENTUCKY OAKS. Sixty of the Presumed Best Fillies in the Land Named to Contest. By John T. Sallee. Louisville, Ky.. February IS. — An even three, score fillies have been named to start in the- Oaks, the siste-r stake of the- Kentucky Derby, at Chnreh"U| Downs in May. according to announcement mae tonight by the New Louisville Jockey Club. The m. munitions to the race are the most represents -five of recent years, in fact, about all of the ge,od ones over tin1 country have- been iieeminated. As was anticipated A. K. Msceeshll named several good ones. He has named four, all of them being foreign -bred. They are- Blsaga, Sunhonnet. Verdant and Kittenish. Verdant has not started. Three of these fillies showed enough last year. their first in this country, to indie-ate thai they Would be go.id ones next spring, unless they were exceedingly backward in their training. Bonnie Witch and Golden Rod were named by Harry Payne Whitney. Last year he was disappointed by the showing of his entry in the Oaks and this year hopes to walk away with the long end of the purse. The Whitney entry was no match for the speedy Kathleen last spring. Corrigan and McKinney lead all 110m inators with five. The Cleveland horsemen are Mooaomlng out and lovrs of the turf are hoping the pair of horse-men. who have withstood many reverses and still persevered, will have a great season. Vague is ■apposed to be the b -st entry and the Ce-n Dreaming filly has shown enough to warrant Corrigan and McKinney sending her against sue h splendid opposition. Maud Bacon a Belated Entry. There came near being only fifty-nine entries in the Oaks this year. George W. BRtenaaa just barely did get the iieimination of the- Tony Bonero filly. Maud Bacon, here in time. A special delivery letter mailed in Seattle, Wash.. January L!» at 10:30 p. in . arrived here several days after the nominations had been MSSpOed. The letter showed a postmark at some point In Mexico and a later one at National City. Cal. Then the letter started on another circuit, winding up here some eight days after the nominations had closed. but because it was mailed before midnight of January 31 it was accepted. This filly lias a good chance in the race. She has a fine record at Tijuana this winter and a few days ago awaei Billerman refused ,500 for her. She is named in the Kentucky Derby also. Koh-i-Noor, which has been rated as a high-class filly, will carry the colors of Schuyler L. Parsons in the Oaks, if she can stand the work in her preparation for the Derby as well as the Oaks. While the daughter of Dr. Leggo has been named in the Derby, she probably will not start unless she shows forwardness in her preparation. If Mr. ParSWBS decides to wait anil try for the Oaks, he will have two weeks more to prepare ber for her meeting with what may be the best band of three-year-old fillies that have raced in these parts in many a long day. The Kentucky contingent will not be without plenty of winged arrows in the Oaks quiver. There are some fine performers which will re pie sent the Blue Grass State. Among them are: Mary Belle from the W. II. Baker stable. Lucile P.. Sunflish. Vermila ami Katenka. Two that must not be overlooked are Adelia and Arrow from the stable of Oeorgc J.
